WALK
ON! is the therapeutic riding program at Willow Wood
Ranch. The program is available March through July, and September
through November. Within each time frame we have specific sessions
available.
Our
mission is to reach out to children and young adults with disabilities
in order to facilitate a positive change in their lives using
proven therapeutic
riding methods.
Our
mission is obtained by using proven therapeutic horseback riding
techniques with a one-to-one ratio of student and instructor.

Children
who participate in therapeutic riding may experience increased
verbalization, motor skills or mobility.
Some
of the conditions that have been treated with therapeutic riding
include:
- Cerebral
Palsy
- Muscular
Dystrophy
- Down
Syndrome
- Autism
- Post-Surgical
Rehabilitation
- Physical
or Emotional Abuse
- At-Risk
Youth
(Riders
with physical conditions must be approved for horseback riding
by their physician before entering our program)
The
horse-rider combination is used as a method to emulate the skeletal
and muscular movements that come naturally in the body.
Focus
is given to the individual participant's needs, and not to a
specific riding style or format.

WALK
ON is a member center of the North American Riding for
the Handicapped Association (NARHA), a national non-profit
organization that promotes the benefit of the horse for individuals
with physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Through
this association we are able to ensure safe, effective and proven
methods of therapeutic horseback riding for our participants.
