Kelly
Dillard, WALK ON Volunteer
|
Hello,
My name is Kelly Dillard. I am a volunteer
at WALK ON. I also hold the titles of "Miss
Teen Rowlett 2005" and "Miss West Texas Outstanding
Teen 2006".
My
pageant platform is called "Be Head Smart",
a lesson in helmet safety.
I have spoken about this subject at the Rowlett City Hall,
local clubs and many schools.

Everyone knows
it is safer to wear a helmet while doing certain sporting activities.
The question is
why do people choose not to? I
believe it is because most people are not thinking about the
possible consequences. It is a proven fact that with a helmet
people are up to 85% safer.
My
Goal is to make people THINK before they ride that motorcycle,
gallop on that horse or ride a bike without a helmet. The decision
to wear a motorcycle helmet did save my brother's life.
He is alive today and back to his normal self. I share his story
with as many people as possible to make them aware of some simple
prevention measures. I am hoping to spark a new awareness at
all age levels.

I try to point
out it is ok to do the right thing...
"Protect
your head
there is important stuff in there!"
The story
of my brother's accident is a lesson to be learned. I am passionate
about this. Things
could be very different for my family if he had made another
choice that day. I have pictures of the accident and the broken
motorcycle helmet to make my point.
Wishing
you a safe ride!
