CELINA, TEXAS (April 15, 2010) -- WALK ON Therapeutic Riding & Learning Center announces the launch of a
new Web site, in conjunction with the beginning of their eighth year of therapeutic horseback riding services to
children with special needs. 2010 also marks the first full year that WALK ON will focus their services on children
on the Autism Spectrum, including those with Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD).
The site - www.therapyriding.com - provides information on the variety of services available through the nonprofit
organization. In addition to equine assisted therapy, WALK ON also facilitates a brain-based sensory
method called The Listening Program. This series of specially-produced musical arrangements helps facilitate
sensory discernment and spatial growth.
"We are excited and blessed to begin our eighth year at the Ranch," said Tara Malphrus, co-founder and
Executive Director. "To be able to work with these kids, and witness even the smallest of changes in their lives, is
such a wonderful experience" she adds. Malphrus and her husband founded the ranch as a non-profit
organization in 2003 after working at similar facilities and realizing the need in their area, which serves families
in the Celina, Prosper, Frisco and Plano areas.
Willow Wood Ranch, the charity that governs the WALK ON program, is operated on a 100% volunteer basis and
through support of individuals and organizations in the communities it serves. All tuition, donations and gifts-inkind
are used in direct support of the horses and facilities. There is no paid staff - the Ranch relies on a dedicated
team of volunteers who share in the passion to give back to the community through this program.
Malphrus, a special education teacher in the McKinney area, has worked with children on the Autism Spectrum
since beginning her teaching career over a decade ago. She brings her teaching experience to the ranch by
facilitating the child's IEP (Individualized Education Plan) from school into their sessions at the Ranch. In
addition, she is an avid horse professional, owning horses since her teen years. She is a Certified Instructor
through NARHA, of which WALK ON is also a Registered Organization.
