Our Services: What We Do

THERAPEUTIC HORSEBACK RIDING: Since 2003, WALK ON has provided therapeutic horseback riding to our participants. The horse-rider combination provides a physical and emotional bond that is often unavailable using traditional therapy methods for children on the Autism spectrum. Our wonderful group of horses and volunteers work with the instructors and riders to provide an excellent environment for learning and working on each child's specific needs.

THE LISTENING PROGRAM: TLP’s clinically-proven approach gently trains the auditory system to accurately process sound. When auditory perception is distorted—whether through illness, injury, developmental or other challenges—auditory processing problems can lead to academic, emotional, cognitive and social challenges. SOCIAL SKILLS: While we offer one-on-one instruction to our participants, we also understand and value the opportunities available in peer modeling for kids on the spectrum. Therefore, as applicable, we work with parents to introduce their children to an environment where social skills can be experienced and encouraged. This may occur on horseback or in our classroom environment.

YEAR-ROUND SUSTAINMENT: Children on the spectrum are routine-based and look forward to their visits to the Ranch. When the Texas weather doesn't cooperate, we are blessed to have indoor activities to sustain the participants. We are proud to be one of only eight therapeutic riding centers in the state of Texas, and one of the first since 2005, to feature the Equicizer. This is a mechanical horse that mimics the movements of our live equine partners. In addition to sustainment through bad weather, the Equicizer also allows us to introduce the child to the movements he or she can expect when riding on the real horse and overcome any fears or anticipation they may have. EDUCATION: We are humbled to be able to offer educational services to children on the Autism Spectrum. One area of focus at WALK ON is incorporating the child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in their session. Additionally, there is an entire world of like-minded people and organizations that share our passion to serve this community. WALK ON strives to become a catalyst between the families in our program and the world of resources available. We have several opportunities throughout the year to connect with others, through participation in planned events or providing guest speakers or workshops at the Ranch.

SUPPORT: In addition to continuing education and awareness opportunities, we also facilitate a Meetup Group that gets together periodically to share specifically from one parent/family to another about the challenges, and the celebrations, they experience with their kids.
